Board changes?

Board changes?

Was happy to get my 3 new boards today, looks like you are up to version 1.0, congrats!   My old boards are 0.3, just curious if there are any specific changes from older board revisions to the newer ones?   My current 3 are in a project that I'm waiting to see when the battery dies, so can't do any real compares right now!

Only main thing I've seen so far is the U.Fl connection vs the SMA one.  Missed that in the writeup/product page, but not a big deal for my current projects and will actually work a little better for my upcoming one!

Nice new forums too!

(and if anyone is interested, takes about 3 weeks to get to the United States with Standard Shipping)

Hi xnih13,

About the forum it got upgraded automatically. I believe tapatalk bought the forum hosting, we only got notified on the day things changed ;)

Regarding the differences between Whisper Node RFM69 v 0.3v and 1.0v here the main ones:
- u.FL connector standard and SMA optional, also a TH for a wire antenna (previously only SMA available)
- PCB jumpers using 0603 0R for hardware customization (instead of traces to be cut)
- LDO now based on MCP1700, with extremely low quiescent current (previously a dual Ldo was available but with significant quiescent current)
- Active voltage monitor on VIN, which will switch to VBat if under 3.4V - this is a nice feature because you can join VIN and VBat and use, for example, a LiPo cell on all voltage range
- Optimized inductor for the step-up, which will work better at low loads and handle better current spikes.
- To read VIN voltage it's now necessary to control a Mosfet via A0 (previously only available to VBat, VIN used to be directly connected to the voltage divider, wasting some uAs of current)

I believe those as the major differences, regarding power consumption you can expect very similar figures to VBAT but some good improvement to VIN. Everything else still based on high quality components and board specifications as the previous version.

Regards
Mike M.

Thanks, looks like some nice updates!

Right hand side of the board, for the 4x 3.3V connections (or is it 7, not sure what the 2nd row of 3 is), in the past they was 2x3.3R1 and 2x3.3R2 (and then the back row of 3 whatever they are), anything we need to be aware of there?  Had only ever used 1 of them in the past, but was just going to wire up the new ones and notices  the difference.

You're right, in the older version used to have 2x3V3_R1 and 2x3V3_R2. Now all four pins are the 3V3_R1, only one Rail because of the new single LDO.

About the 3 TH under the 3V3_R1, those are to access the RTC pins, in case the chip is installed (https://bitbucket.org/talk2/whisper-nod ... der-rtc-p6)
