Powering just with an LDO

Hi there,

Just wanted to pick brains of fellow hackers. Just with the background of keeping fewer components on my PCB, I am using AP2138 LDO (Iq = 1uA) 3.3V with two CR2032's. Thus giving me a span from 3.4V to 6V to operate my wisen or any other custom board (atmega328p).
Secondly, someone tried running atmega328p 16Mhz crystal on 2.8 Volts or 3.0 Volts?

Cheers,
Omer

Hello Omer,

This seems to be a nice LDO. Just keep in mind to avoid current spikes as the CR2032 cannot continually deliver high-currents. There are some discussion suggesting the use of a large capacitor as a energy buffer to prolong the battery life.

About the ATMega328P @ 16MHz, it's important to understand it's off the specification and the result might depend on your environment. Here an interesting test video on this subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If0eOa0Uj5I
