We were wondering here in the office: would you consider making the Whisper Node LoRa module available with the larger antenna connector, as originally supplied? Maybe this could be a different product in the store, so that one has a choice between the tiny connector currently fitted to the V1.0 boards, or the larger connector as fitted to the earlier boards? We note that the pads are still present on the 1.0 boards to support the larger connector.

We'll shortly be putting these boards into long-term outside use (in an IP67 enclosure) and we feel the tiny connectors are a little weak, and we also have concerns about signal loss in the tiny coaxial cable - we'll be fitting an external antenna connector to the enclosures, and the larger antenna connector is much better for this type of application.

We'd be grateful if you could give this some consideration.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the input. The V1.0 boards can be fitted with a SMA Edge connector by simply soldering the component directly to the board. We can also provide the boards with the additional connector already fitted, you just need to purchase the connector and the soldering service from our online store.

Additionally, from our experience, the use of the u.FL to SMA pig-tail does not affect the radio performance and can be safely used if the board and connector are permanently fixed to an enclosure and there's no cable movement. The signal loss is really minimal because the very short cable length.
